THE AFRICAN GREY TIMNEH
Often noted as the best "talkers" and "mimics" of the pet bird world. Known to have exceptional vocal abilities and potential extensive vocabularies. They learn and repeat sounds and words quickly after the age of 12 months, however whistling and other vocal abilities will emerge prior to 12 months. Words will become very clear after practice, which they seem to do when no one is around!
Timneh Greys bond closely with their owners and delight in being part of the family.
Their noise-making is not terribly loud or offensive, and neighbours rarely complain.
Description:
Timneh Greys look similar to the Congo Grey, except for some distinctive differences; they are more slender, weighing in at 275-375 grams; length: 30 cm (12 ins).
Their upper beak is bone-colored instead of black, and their feathering is much darker than a Congo's.
Their tail feathers are a deep lustrous maroon, as opposed to the Congo - who has the bright red tail.
Timnehs retain the white mask of their larger cousins, and their faces can be extremely expressive. My personal opinion is, the Timneh Grey that has the sweetest and kindest looking face.
Timneh Greys aren't all perfect and unless you devote your time and attention to them, many can be prone to mischief as with most parrots, but for those who know and love the Timneh Grey, they are as close to perfect as we can get.
